The Clay County Fair begins today (September 12) with forecasted conditions of cloudy and perhaps rainy for a good portion of the weekend. Nonetheless I'm sure it will still be quite a turnout at the fair for the opening weekend. All week I've been posting updates with a couple of images in each post that you will be able to find in the photography booth at the fair. Here is the last of the 7 updates that will lead you to the gates opening... The two pictures for today are the two for entry into the special classes, the first of which is 'motion' and is of wind turbines at sunset near Superior, Iowa. The second image is the special class of beautiful Iowa, which this year featured the title of 'barns'; the image is of the barn at my house near Terril, IA.

Once again you will be able to find images that I have taken at the Clay County Fair in Spencer, Iowa from September 12-20. As we near the fair I will update at least once a day with the images I have entered, and that you can look for if you attend the 2009 Clay County Fair. Here is update 6 of 7 which features two computer manipulation images that I completed just within the past couple of months. The first is a multi-image collage which is actually my own wedding invitation background image; the second a selective colored image of firefighters from the Wallingford elevator fire.

Here is update 5 of 7 that shows two animal pictures, the first of which is a 'portrait' session that I did with Ella, the family dog of my fiance's. And the second animal picture is of a small skunk, not something you see too often roaming around in a backyard.

Here is update 2 of 7 that features two landscape images; the first image in color is taken near Superior, Iowa and shows both wind turbines and railcars/tracks of the nearby ethanol plant. The second, black and white image is of the 'whales mouth' of a shelf cloud between Estherville and Wallingford, Iowa on July 7, 2009. Look for these two landscapes at the Fair!

JPP Featured in NatGeo Book 'Tornado Hunter'

Two pictures taken by Jayson Prentice have been featured in one of the latest releases of a National Geographic book called 'Tornado Hunter' by Stefan Bechtel and Tim Samaras. The two images are featured in the center insert of glossy paged images, the first of which is a large panoramic of a storm near Kadoka, SD in June of 2007. The second image is featured just a page later of a large high-precipitation supercell near Cassoday, KS.

Both of these images are available for limited edition printings (web pages coming soon!) from sizes ranging from an 8x10" to 16x24", and from 5.5x20" to 8x30" panoramic prints. All prints will be adhered to 2mm styrene board unless requested otherwise, and will be signed and numbered on the back of the styrene board.

Chase & Rebecca

Last Wednesday (March 11) I got the chance to do an engagement session with Chase and Rebecca at the Reiman Gardens in Ames, IA. We spent some time in the consortium where it was warm and humid, and then we decided to venture outside into the 'warm' 15 degrees! We battled the cold and had some fun, their entire gallery of images (72 of them) has been uploaded: Lucas & Hinshaw Gallery

A few of my choices are below for you to get a quick look at, and look forward to a few more edits of the pictures (selective coloring, collages, etc.) in the coming week(s)!

G/T District Wrestling

It has been a while (~2 weeks) since Graettinger/Terril wrestlers competed in Sioux Center for the chance to head to Des Moines for the State Wrestling Tournament. Three wrestlers made it through, and several others came so close. Photos from the District Wrestling in Sioux Center are now available online, and don't forget to order your photos while the Wrestling Sale is going on (Now until March 7th!). Enger Family Photos

Photos of the the Enger family have been completed, and are available to both view and purchase online. There are three options for basic prints, ranging from 8x10" up to 16x20"; and there are two panoramic images that are available in much larger sizes. I hope each family can find an image they enjoy, and be sure to let me know if you would like your individual family to have their photo taken this summer!

Upcoming Additions

A busy week last week, and a busy start to this week has delayed the addition of two photo sessions that were completed back on February 14th and 16th. Pictures from the District Wrestling Tournament on February 14th in Sioux Center will be added late this week. Also, the large family photo session that was completed on February 16th for relatives of the late Lloyd Enger will also be available later this week. Additional information and details on purchasing those photos will be added once the photos are available online.

Tatman 100th Win Images

Two images that have been edited for James Tatman's 100th wrestling win that occurred on January 31, 2009 at the Laurens-Marathon Invitational. The first is just an image of James after his win with his balloons that he received, the second is a collage of three images including his balloons (upper-left), during the match (mid-upper), and the pin for his 100th win.

It has been a slow go on updating the new website, with several ideas and options that I've implemented and then decided on something different. And repeated that process several times over...

I finally believe I have my plan in place, and am on my way to finishing it up hopefully by the end of the month. In the mean time I will also begin to get a few updates on the blog from a few events that I've done thus far in January. This includes a family portrait session, and two wrestling tournaments (Graettinger/Terril Invitational and the upcoming Laurens-Marathon Invitational). Look for those updates and some more information including the grand release of the new website within the next week or two!
